Reuben Leonard "Rube" Berry, 63, Springfield MO, a former Welch area resident, died at 4:05pm Monday, April 6, 1998, at the home of his step daughter in Tulsa after a long illness.
Mr. Berry was born July 3, 1934 at Aurora, MO. He had been a coach at many schools, including Pierce City, MO, and Sterling College, Hillsboro, KS. He was an assistant coach at Fort Scott KS Junior College, and a football coach at Southwest Missouri State University at Springfield, MO and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Miami. He was an assistant coach in the Canadian Football League for the British Columbia Lions of Vancouver, Canada, and head football coach for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. He was head football coach at Willard MO High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He married Barbara Moore on July 18 1986, in Oklahoma. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Lynn Berry Forkum, Miami; a son, Todd Berry, Normal IL; two stepdaughters, Mishell Blevins Garver and Lise Blevins, both of Tulsa; a stepson, Jason Blevins, Miami; his mother Helen Berry, address unavailable; two sisters, Bonnie Berry Rea, Aurora, and Jean Berry Ronsom, Ridgecrest CA; a brother, Earl Berry, Verona MO; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, April 8 at All Saints Episcopal Church, Miami. The Rev. Noel Doherty officiated.
The body has been taken for cremation. Burial was planned in All Saints Garden of the Good Shepherd, Miami.
Arrangements were under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home, Welch.
