Robert was the son of the late Joseph and Hazel Gauthier Baker. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Guam during the Korean War. Robert, a former owner of the Argyle Variety shop, was a past commander of the American Legion Post 1518 in Argyle, NY. He served as postmaster in Argyle for 27 years and was responsible for the building of the town's post office. He was a member of the Washington County Postmasters' association. Robert was a member and lay leader of the Argyle United Methodist church. He was predeceased by a sister, Carrie Baker and a brother, Edward Baker. Survivors included his wife, Rae Richards Baker of Argyle; one son, Kent Baker of Argyle; two sisters, Mrs. Ignatius (Phoebe) Tracy of Lake George and Rose Fuller of Glens Falls. He was 56 years old.
