Green W Blount was born on June 13, 1834 in Hancock County, Georgia to Isaac Blount and Sarah Ezell.
He was the eldest of five siblings: Thomas Reading Blount, Rebecca Blount, Sydney Francis Blount, and Mary Blount.
In 1857 he married Tabitha Carr and they had five children together: Mary Blount, Martha Elizabeth “Mattie” Blount, Tone Blount, Georgia A Blount, and Dawson Newton “Doss” Blount.
In May 1862 he enlisted in the 59th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company “I” in Sparta, Georgia. He fought at the battles of Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Knoxville's sieges, and the Wilderness. On May 12, 1864 he was wounded during the Battle of Spotsylvania. He recovered from his wound and returned to his unit during the Siege of Petersburg. In April of 1865, he surrendered with his unit at Appomattox along with the Army of Northern Virginia.
Green returned to Hancock County, where he and Tabitha raised their family in Devereux, Georgia. He passed away at home on September 4, 1900. He was survived by his wife Tabitha; brothers Thomas Reading and Sydney Francis; children “Mattie,” Georgia, and “Doss,” and eleven grandchildren.
