Mary Anne Hancock Hales, 85, died Sunday, July 5, 2015, after a short but brave struggle with lung cancer.
A graveside service for the family will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11 at Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Scotland Neck, with the Rev. James presiding. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of June and Barry Judge, 1700 Pine Forest Drive in Scotland Neck.
Anne was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She taught preschool for 14 years at Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh.

Anne is survived by her son, Barry Hales of Raleigh; her daughter, Cheryl H. Farinholt and husband Phil of Wilmington; her beloved granddaughter, Natalie Anne Farinholt and husband Yuri Kolesnikov of Fuquay-Varina; her sister, Alice H. Bradley of Rocky Mount; and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends from Brookhaven, St. Giles, and her new home at Whispering Pines.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Transitions LifeCare, the Bill Hales Memorial Scholarship at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, or any animal charity.

Arrangements are being handled by Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck. A memorial service for neighbors, friends and family will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19 at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, with the Rev. Katherine Kussmaul presiding. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
