Buckner, age 83 of Punta Gorda, FL and formerly of Asheville died Monday, July 6, 2015.
Charlie was born April 27, 1932 in Buncombe County to the late Vernon and Mary Sue Mundy Buckner. Charles was raised in the Reems Creek Community of Weaverville. He and his wife had retired to Punta Gorda, FL in 2012. A US Army Veteran he served during the Korean Conflict and later retired from Wright’s Machine & Tool Company in Swannanoa. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Helen Jones of Weaverville.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years Brenda L. Gardner Buckner; daughters, Lisa Meadows, Dianne Raines, Linda Lumston, Joyce Fox; sons, Jeffrey Cox and Jerry Cox; sister, Betty Jean Cross; brother, Jay Buckner; nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church, 204 Blue Bird Ridge Rd., Black Mountain, NC 28711, with Reverends Randy Stone and Frank Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
