She married Dr. Walter P. Ward on Dec. 30, 1941, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1982.
She attended Fort Hays State College and lived in Kansas since 1950. She moved to Hays in 1967. She was a homemaker and office manager for her husband's practice in Gorham and Hays for 30 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays Meal Site, a Senior Companion for more than 15 years and a charter member of Humane Society of the High Plains, all of Hays.
Survivors include a son, Walter Ward Jr. and wife, Darlene, Lawrence; four daughters, Catherine McMillan and husband, JR., Julie Blackwell and husband, Steven, and Kim Diaz and husband, Mike, all of Salina; and Connie Herdt and husband, Steve, Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gladys Boedker.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Humane Society of the High Plains or Masses in care of the mortuary.
