Jean Mildred (Herring) Stinson, age 88, passed away on July 9, 2015, at Ottawa Retirement Village. She was born August 2, 1926 at her parents’ home in Princeton, KS, the daughter of Troy Herring and Grace (Winters) Herring. Jean was a lifelong resident of the Princeton area, attending the Acorn grade school as a child and graduating from Princeton High School with the class of 1944.

She was a lifelong farm wife and Co-Owner with her husband of Stinson Meat Processing. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Ottawa, Kansas Meat Processors Association, Kansas Livestock Association, National Angus Association, Franklin County Farm Bureau, Night Crawlers Camping Club, Acorn 4-H Club, and Princeton Jolly Workers 4-H Club.

Jean was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed having her family get together and feed them all. She always followed up the “get togethers” with several pictures of the family. She loved to capture the moments with her family together, especially eating at the table. She also enjoyed camping and fishing, especially on trips to Canada. She loved to watch basketball and of course most precious to her was the time spent playing with her grandkids and great grandkids. They held a special spot in her heart. She was a true family person who loved all of her family.

On November 2, 1945, Jean was united in marriage to Bennie Stinson at her parents’ home in Princeton. They shared over 69 years of loving marriage. Bennie survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Lois Livingood and her husband, Jerry, of Livermore, Co., Karen Martinez and her husband, Tom, of Princeton; a son, Joe Stinson and his wife, Brenda, of Ottawa; a son-in-law, Jeff Casten, Quenemo, twelve grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Stinson; daughter, Joyce Casten; two brothers, Roy Herring, Bob Herring; two sisters, Dorothy Ballard, Gladys Herring (infant); and a great granddaughter, Angel McCurry.
