Juanell (Russell) Haddock a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator and resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life at her home into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the age of 89 years 8 months and 2 days after a courageous battle with cancer. Juanell was born and raised in Pirtle, Oklahoma, to William Carol Russell and Bonnie Elizabeth Gibbs Russell on November 7, 1925.

She attended Pirtle and Oak Grove Elementary Schools then graduated Blue High School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education and Elementary Education from SOSU. She continued her education receiving a Master’s in Education from SOSU, as well as studying at UC Berkeley, Peabody College-Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, earning a M.L.S. Juanell proudly used these studies by giving 40 years to education. She began her teaching career in Kemp, Oklahoma, teaching one year before going to Bokchito, Oklahoma. After four years in Bokchito, Juanell left for the "The Land of Enchantment." While in New Mexico, she taught for the Hobbs Public School District. She was an active member and officer for her local and state Education Association during her 36 years in Hobbs. She finished her teaching career as Library Director for the Hobbs Public Schools. Finally, in 1993 she returned to Oklahoman. Juanell made many fond memories from her years in education and many lifelong friends.

Juanell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant. She sang with the FBC Keenagers and was Sunday School Treasurer. The Dr. Gaskin Memorial Room at FBC became her passion for a time as she served on the FBC Historian Committee for this special project. She was an active member with her local AAUW Association.

Juanell had many interests. She loved seeing new places while traveling at home and abroad after retirement. Sunday gatherings were a joy for her while sharing time with her beloved family and son. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. OU football and basketball along with the Dallas Cowboys were a shared hobby with many. Juanell loved Blue Grass Gospel music and loved going to Grace Baptist Church jamborees.

Mrs. Haddock is survived by her son, Russell Haddock and wife Glenda of Philadelphia, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kurt Haddock and wife Jessica of Rogers, Arkansas and Jana Haddock of Philadelphia, Oklahoma; great-grandsons, Tyler Haddock of Edmond, Oklahoma and Jackson Haddock of Rogers, Arkansas; great-granddaughters, Kayla Haddock of Rogers, Arkansas and Jada Haddock of Philadelphia, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Haddock was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Bonnie Russell; sister, Oretta Williams; and an infant brother.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 13, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Durant with Rev. James Robinson and Bro. Philip Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant.
