Joseph was the second oldest child of Andrzej GALUS and Agnieszka nee SZTORC. He was born 26 May 1878 in the village of Łęki Dolne, which was at that time part of the Austrian Partition of Poland. Łęki Dolne is now in woj. Podkarpackie, Poland.

Joseph and his younger brother, Stanislaus, (my grandfather), sailed from Antwerp, Belgium, 20 Aug 1898 and arrived at the Port of Philadelphia 6 Sep 1898. From there they traveled to Tarnov, Platte County, Nebraska, where they stayed for a time with their Aunt and Uncle, Andrew and Marianna GALUS PAPROCKI.

Joseph married Anna OLSZOWKA 26 Jan 1910 at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Tarnov, Platte County, Nebraska. Their first son, Leo Joseph, was born 13 Apr 1911 and was baptized at St. Michael Church.

Sometime before the birth of their second son they moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. The rest of their children were all born in Chicago

At some point some of the family moved to Rosebush, Isabella County, Michigan. Joseph died there 1 May 1931; Anna died in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella County, 7 Jan 1946.
