United States Naval Officer. A 1933 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he entered the United States Submarine Service in 1936. During World War II he was given command of the submarine "USS Archerfish". On November 29, 1944 off the coast of Japan the Archerfish sank the Japanese supercarrier "Shinano", the largest ship ever sunk by a submarine. Some naval historians have reported that the Shinano had a final displacement of more than 69,000 tons. For this action, the Archerfish received a Presidential Unit Citation, and Captain Enright received the Navy Cross, his service's highest award for valor after the Medal of Honor. Enright served for 30 years on active duty in the United States Navy and retired July 1, 1963. After his retirement he moved to Dover, Massachusetts, and worked on the Omega navigation program with the Northrop Nortronics and later with Sanders Corporation of Nashua, New Hampshire. He authored the book, "Shinano! The Sinking of Japan's Secret Supership" in 1987.
