MATTHEWS, Velma E. Of Grand Blanc, age 86, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Father Jonathan Perrotta officiating. Entombment at Flint Memorial Park.
Those desiring may make contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Visitation 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mrs. Matthews will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass.
Velma was born in Flint, Michigan on May 30, 1927, daughter of the late John and Jeanette (Nagy) Thor.
On May 10, 1958 she married Cooper Matthews Jr.
She attended church at Holy Family Catholic Church.
She loved gardening, bird watching and had a particular love of ducks. Surviving are husband, Cooper;
children, Douglas, Laura, Jeffrey (Jennifer) and Melissa;
two sisters, Irene Kirby and Eleanor Marshall;
sister-in-law, Jean and husband Carl Wolf;
many nieces and nephews.
