Robert Wayne Richardson, age 95, was born to Clair and Olga (Smith) Richardson on May 29, 1919 and went home to be with the Lord on December 14, 2014. He had two older siblings, Marvin and Mildred and two younger brothers, Floyd and Jack.

Bob, as he is called by most people, grew up on a farm north of Eagleville. He attended Lone Star Country School and graduated from Eagleville High School. Bob was baptized and became a member of the Otterbein Church at a young age. He later transferred his membership to the Blythedale Christian Church, where he was an active member. He worked on the farm with his Dad and was an employee of the North Station in Eagleville.

In July of 1942, Bob joined the Air Force. He enrolled in a B-25 specialist class and became an engineer gunner. During World War II, he flew 48 missions with 236 combat hours within one year while stationed in Kwelin, China. During the war his brother Floyd was killed while serving in the Army in Italy. He was 22 years old.

In 1944 Bob married Naomi (VanHoozer) Richardson. During their first year of marriage, they lived in Walla Walla, Washington where he was stationed. After being discharged in October of 1945, they returned to the Eagleville area and became engaged in farming.

Bob and Naomi had three children, Susan Beth, Jean Ann, and Roger Lee. The family had a dairy farm, raised sheep and hogs, as well as several acres of row crop and hay ground. Later they took pride in their Angus cattle herd.

During much of this time Bob worked part time at Lamoni and Grant City Sale Barns. He always had horses and the whole family were members and supporters of the Blythedale Saddle Club. Much of their time was spent riding in drills, competition at horse shows and riding in trail rides. In 1966 the family received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Balanced Farming.

Bob served on many area boards including the school board, the township board, BTC Bank Board, Farmers Mutual and Federal Land Bank boards.

In 1976 Bob sold the farm and moved to Blythedale. On January 1, 1983 he married Loree Slaughter. Loree has one son, Bill Slaughter of Bethany. She was an employee of Bethany Trust Bank in Bethany. Bob continued his love for animals on his small acreage by raising sheep, cattle, and chickens. He kept several horses so he could still ride. He and Loree also raised a big garden and did lots of canning each year.

He had a painting crew for about eight years, then later took up custom lawn mowing which he enjoyed the rest of his years, until this spring when he wasn’t able to continue at the capacity that he was used to.

Bob developed his own ministry of visiting the area nursing homes, encouraging those that he knew, as well as others that he became acquainted with. He did this every Friday for 27 years.

After a bout with pneumonia in the spring he decided to retire from the lifetime of labor that he was used to. He moved to Bethany Care Center where he became a resident until his passing on December 14, 2014.
