A member of the First Presbyterian church of Ovid. Her husband John Edward Seeley was an Original Trustee for the Williard Asylum for the insane. He was an early member of the Republican Party, which was created by factions of the Whig Party who sought the abolition of slavery in all US territories. he was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1871-1873 for the NY 24th District. Voted in favor of the "Yellowstone Act" which created the world's first national park.
