William is the son of William II and Emma (Bell) Spenceley/Spencley.

Married Madeline in Victoria, BC, Canada.

William and Madeline moved to Bliss, Michigan in 1901 soon after they married.

They lived in a small cabin and raised 16 known children.

Mary Violet (Alfreda Jane McCumby Graham)
Robert Benson (McCumby Graham)
John Gordon (Samuel Gordon McCumby Graham)
Bert
Gladys G (Esther Mary McCumby Graham)
Eva Ellen (first born in Michigan)
Bertha
Amy Ann
William Frederick
George
Lawrence Lloyd
Roy Andrew
Lester Leroy
Paul Edwin
Carl E
Earl Edgar

The first 5 children listed were born in Canada before Madeline and William married.

A record for John Gordon (Samuel Gorden) lists his father as William John Graham. So am thinking these five children have this same father, but only 2 children in the 1910 census show are step children.

Taken from Rogers/Spencley Family Tree Research:

"William Spencley married his wife, Madeline with 3 children. I was never able to trace the father of those children. Mary Violet, Robert Benson and John. They were mormons and in Canada there was a group of people called "the Orange people" who tormented the Mormons. To get away from the 'Orange People', a group crossed over the frozen lake to get from Canada to Michigan in 1900 or 1901. William and Madeline settled in Emmet County and raised 16 children, including her 3 which took the name Spencley"

It's hard to say exactly how many children were in this family, as both must've been previously married and step childrens names were changed.

William died from severe apoplexy. His CoD lists burial in the Bliss Cemetery.

Madeline and William Spencley are the great grandparent's of my uncle Lawrence's wife.
