Bro. Patterson has been preaching, mostly evangelizing in destitute places in Mississippi for over 46 years, his home being in West Point nearly all this time. He has been successful in his work, and has had nine preachers to enter the ministry under his influence, eight white and one colored. He has held 76 revival meetings and was pastor of the Church in Corinth for three years.

Patterson Rites Held
First Christian Church Pastor in West Point Laid to Rest
The Rev. N. B. Patterson, 77, first full-time Christian church pastor in West Point, died last night at 10 o’clock at his home on Sixth street, with a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted from the Patterson home this afternoon at 3 o’clock by the Rev. L. E. Sellers, retired Christian church pastor and Rev. Paul C. Howle, pastor of the Christian church. Pall bearers were: Joe Higginbotham, R. C. Davis, Kyle Chandler, H. L. Murphy, D. A. Meek, F. R. Roberts, W. H. Rose, and W. S. Westbrook. Calvert Funeral directors were in charge of arrangements. Rev. Patterson, an honorary elder in the local Christian church, leaves his widow and two children, Edgar Patterson, and Mrs. Victor King, and a grandson, Robert Patterson, of West Point. Rev. Patterson was born in north Alabama having lived in West Point for more than 50 years. He was married 49 years ago to Miss Mattie Kennedy of this city. Before coming to West Point he held pastorates at Nettleton and Corinth Christian churches. He was a graduate of Mars Hill school in north Alabama. The entire community is bowed in sorrow at the passing of the beloved retired minister. (Times Leader, January 6, 1940, page 1)
