PARENTS, ANCESTRY and DNA CLUSTER ANALYSIS -
The names of the parents of Marada Ann Bascom South are unknown at this time.
Research is ongoing.
All North American Bascom families are descended from Thomas and Avis Bascom, immigrants and early day residents of Colonial New England. In the 1860s efforts were made to gather family information from various branches of the Bascom family and in 1870, the book GENEALOGY OF THOMAS BASCOM & HIS DESCENDANTS (pub 1870 by Edward Doubleday Harris) was published listing seven generations of Bascom descendants of Thomas and Avis Bascom. This book is available online. See helpful links below.
DNA MATCH CLUSTER ANALYSIS provides BASCOM LINK -  A meaningful DNA cluster of autosomal matches has been identified by Gayle Foster (descendant of Marada Bascom) that indicates that Marada was a descendant of the Thomas & Avis Bascom family of Colonial New England, likely through the line of ENSIGN DANIEL 210 BASCOM (b. 1703 MA)  and ELIZABETH FRENCH.

FAMILY NAMES - Marada’s father MAY have been named Stephen.  An analysis of the naming pattern of Marada’s first three sons follows a pattern.  Her first son, Samuel was named after her husband, Samuel South; her second son, Stephen was presumably named after Marada’s father; and her third son, John, was presumably named after Samuel’s father, possibly John South of Belmont County, Ohio.   Also,as already noted, her presumed brother was named Stephen.   Another name of interest- Marada named a son James WHEELER Bascom and it has been speculated that WHEELER may have been a surname of one of her ancestral lines.
