Gwendolyn Pearl, daughter of Henry and Orpha (Mahaffy) Legler was born on June 26, 1922 in Kansas. She was united in marriage to Russell Thompson on April 22, 1939 in Kelso, Washington. In 1943, they returned to the Cogswell area, where they farmed until 1977, when they retired and moved into Oakes, ND. Gwen worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Oakes, and also baked and decorated cakes for many years. She was active in the Forget Me Not Homemakers Club, the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. Gwen enjoyed making quilts and was sewing them right up until June 26th, her 93rd birthday. Russell passed away on September 30, 1994.
Grateful to have shared her life are her five children, Linda (Ed) Huffman, Russell (Pat) Thompson, Gary (Sharon) Thompson, Arthur Thompson and Miles (Deb) Thompson; one brother, Gerald Legler; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Herb Nasmyth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell Sr., a grandson Steven Huffman, and a sister, Clover Nasmyth.
Her funeral will be Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakes United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Old Sargent Cemetery near Cogswell.
