He was the son of Nathan Bransford, veteran of the war of 1812, and Sarah Powell. He married Eliza Jane Ellis on October 18, 1857 in Lavaca County, Texas. She is likely this "Mrs. Bransford" listed in the cemetery survey mentioned above. She died before the 1910 census was taken.
