Quaker Ellis Jones departed Wales in the wake of religious persecution as a participant in William Penn's "Holy Experiment." Per the Pennsylvania Historical Magazine, in a list of names of 'Important Colonists, who came in the ship 'SUBMISSION', Ellis Jones arrived in the Colonies in September 1682.

From Log of the 'Submission' SEP 1682:

Ellis Jones, age 45,
Barbara Jones, age 13,
Dorothy Jones, age 10,
Jane Jones, age 40,
Mary Jones, age 12,
Isaac Jones, age 4 mos.'

Proven descendants of Ellis and Jane Evans Jones are eligible to join The Welcome Society of Pennsylvania.

He was a resident of Bucks county, 1684, but did not remain there long, and in the Welsh Tract Purchases his name appears as having purchased one hundred acres in Nantonell parish, Radnor.

Will of Ellis Jones

Will book "E" page 60, file 1727, register of wills, Philadelphia, Pa.

I, Ellis Jones of Philadelphia in the Province of Pennsylvania, Weaver, being at present, weak of body but by the mercy of God of perfect and sound memory, I now considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of when it may please God to bring me to it, do think it convenient to settle my concerns in the world according to my mind and will, I do now make null and void all former wills made by me and I do order and appoint this to be my last will and Testament in manner and form following.

First after my death, I will and bequeath my soul to Almighty God through Jesus Christ my Lord and my body to a decent burial at the discretion of my executrix, hereafter named, and all my just debts paid.

Item first, I do give to my kinsman, John Pew, Dweller in Chester County, one English Shilling Sterling to be paid by the executor and

I do give to my beloved wife Jane Jones, all of the remainder of my goods and estate both real and personal, to be hers and at her disposal to sell or dispose of forever, to sell or dispose of as she thinks fitting and I do make, order and appoint my beloved wife, Jane Jones, to be my full Executrix of this my last will and Testament.

I witness there unto and have put my hand and Seal this second day of year, three months in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and twenty two.

Ellis Jones (Seal) His Mark
Witnesses:
John Jones,
John Jones Jr.

Ellis Jones evidently died some five years later as his will was filed for probate in 1727.
