Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia R. Meador, 69, of Carthage, Texas were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Pete Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery, Deberry, under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Meador died peacefully August 11, 2013 in Carthage, Texas.
Mrs. Patricia Pearl Ratley Meador was born December 3, 1943 in Deadwood, Texas. She was the youngest of four children born to the marriage of Willie Kent and Ellender Eugenia Attaway Ratley. Patricia graduated from Panola College, obtained her Bachelors from East Texas Baptist University and her masters from Stephen F. Austin University. Mrs. Meador worked 39 years as a professional educator in the Rio Grande Valley area teaching English and journalism, and coaching UIL State Champions. She was the go-to pianist for the school musical, and her former students have gone on to become lawyers, teachers, writers and even movie stars. She retired back to Panola County where she was a member of the Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church. Patricia was an educator, musician, poet, traveler, friend, animal-lover, movie buff, and most especially a number one Mom. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jewel Ophelia Westmoreland, brother Willie Gene Ratley and her former husband and dear friend, Terry Eugene Meador.
