Mitch spent many years working for public water districts, retiring from Otay Water District in 2000.
Retirement opened a wonderful new chapter in Mitch’s life, which included travels with his wife Lynn, enjoying four grandchildren, and volunteer work.
Mitch and Lynn moved to Meridian, Idaho in 2005 to continue their retirement and volunteering, but made frequent visits to California to see family and friends.
Mitch is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynn Link Young; his son, Dwight Young (Amber); and daughter, Rebecca Young Michel; grandsons: Nick and Matthew Hernandez; granddaughters: Natasha and Tatyana Young; great-granddaughter, Zoe Talbot; and his mother, Virginia Young Volturo.
Mitch was a long time member of the Boy Scouts of America, both as a child and then as an adult, spending over 45 years as a Scouter in many different positions. At the time of his death, Mitch was the Webmaster for the Ore-Ida Scout Council in Boise, Idaho, and served on the Council’s Board of Directors.
In Idaho, Mitch served as Chair of the Regional Coordinating Council of Valley Regional Transit, volunteering to represent older Idahoans on this transportation advisory council, because he knew that a strong public transportation system contributes so much to the communities it serves.
At his request, there will be no public memorial service.
If you wish to remember Mitch, donations to Ore-Ida Council, BSA, 8901 Franklin Road, Boise, ID 83709, would be a perfect way to honor him and an organization that he valued so much.
