He was born July 29, 1897, near Moundridge to Cornelius B. and Agnetha (Richert) Wedel. He received his education in the local district school and spent his childhood in the Moundridge and Galva areas.
On May 2, 1916, he married Helen Ratzloff at Mead, where they couple lived before moving to the Moundridge community. In 1936 they moved to the Roxbury-Durham community, where they farmed.
On May 8, 1921, he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite at Lonetree by minister Tobias Dirks. He was elected to the ministry of deacon on May 9, 1938. He served the congregation of the Morning Star Church or nearly 45 years, and served in mission work in Missouri, Arizona, Mexico, and other areas. He served on the church Mission and Charity Board and helped to found the Mennonite Union Aid, and the Christian Hospitalization Aid. H also served as administrator of Bethel Home in Montezuma for four years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Glen and wife Amanda of Durham, Harry and wife Lela and Arthur and wife Violet, of Tampa; one daughter Laverna and husband Henry Redger of Tampa; one brother, Simon Wedel of Montezuma; 15 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives.--Star-Journal, Hillsboro, KS, Jan. 26, 1983
