Christina Sanders, 30, of Sullivan, passed away 5:33 p.m. Thursday (July 2, 2015) in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Dan Fultz officiating. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sullivan High School Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the March of Dimes or her son Connor’s Education Fund. Christina was born June 23, 1985 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Cary and Debra Dirks Suhl. Christina was a 2003 graduate of Sullivan High School where she had participated in volleyball, tumbling, gymnastics, cheerleading, track and FCCLA. She attended Lakeland College for two years and transferred to Eastern Illinois University where she received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education. Christina was the Sullivan High School football cheerleading coach and the Sullivan Middle School 6th grade basketball cheerleading coach. During high school and college she was the tumbling coach at Mattoon Academy. Christina showed a deep passion and love for children through her work in education and athletics. She was a member of the Smyser Christian Church and for the past seven years was a 1st grade teacher at the Sullivan Elementary School. Christina married Blake Sanders on August 27, 2011 in Westervelt, Illinois.

Survivors include her husband Blake; son Connor Sanders at home; parents Cary and Debbie Suhl of Sullivan; grandmother Dorothy Dirks of Lovington; father-in-law Bruce Sanders of Windsor and mother-in-law Mary Keller of Gilbertsville, KY; brother Curtis (Laura) Suhl of Paxton; grandmothers-in-law Atha Sanders of Toledo and Rita Cyr of Trowbridge; brother-in-law Michael (fiancé Jennifer Irle) Sanders of Champaign; sister-in-law Mandi (Donnie) DeClue of Gilbertsville, KY; nieces Kayla, Kamryn and Karly Suhl all of Paxton, niece Gracyn and nephew Gannon DeClue both of Gilbertsville, KY; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Ron Dirks, and paternal grandparents Glenn and Fern Suhl.
