John Joseph Bateman was an Auctioneer and Surveyor, He died in Battle while on a sketching holiday on April 27th 1886 as a result of injuries to the head caused by being accidentaly knocked down by a Railway Train. An inquest into his death was held at the railway Hotel in Battle on April 29th 1886.
He was taken back to Castle Bromwich for burial
