His growing up years were spent in Russett. After graduating from high school, O.M. joined the US Navy in 1945 and served in Japan for 15 months at the end of WWII. After the war, he returned to Blackwell, OK. It was there that he met and started dating his future wife, Joyce Burton. They were married in July 1949 and were married 66 years.
A couple years after they were married, they moved to Colorado Springs, CO where O.M. went to Colorado Springs Bible College to study for the ministry. He graduated in 1955 and went on to get another Bachelor's degree from Friends University in Wichita. O.M. was ordained as a minister in 1957 in the Pilgrim Holiness Church, now called the Wesleyan Church.
He had a career in the ministry for 28 years, pastoring at church in Kansas City, Salina and Oakley, KS. O.M. also served on the District Board for 15 years in various capacities of leadership. He retired from the ministry in 1985, after serving his last church in Oakley for 19 years. His ministry to others influenced countless lives over the years.
Following the ministry, he worked as a rural mail carrier for 10 years in Goodland and Alton, KS. In 1995, O.M. and Joyce moved to Clay Center and he worked as chaplain at Presbyterian Manor for six years.
O.M. was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. From his growing up years in sothern Oklahoma he developed a love of nature and enjoyed fishing, hunting and he always had a big garden. O.M. was a patient and kind man and will be deeply missed by his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
