Robert was born to John Rogers and Dinah Chiske in Ipswich. His mother's name was likely a shortened spelling of Dionysius, which is later seen as the name of one of Robert's children. The "Chiske" last name is also a changed spelling of the family name. Dinah's father is thought to be Henry Keskeyes (Kiskees), of Boston. Henry has a recorded marriage to Ruth Graves in Boston, in 1656.

Robert had eight siblings known to me, five that were known to survive to an adult age. His father and his father's brother, Thomas Rogers, were a "saddlers", (someone who makes saddles, harnesses, horse collars, and bridles). His father was further described as an Innholder in Ipswich records, who kept a tavern called "The Black Horse", in 1693.

At age 20, with his occupation, as his father was, a "saddler", Robert married Dorothy Smith, in Rowley, on Feb. 4, 1703. Dorothy was the daughter of Richard Smith and Hannah Cheney. She was also about 20 years old at the time of her marriage. Robert and Dorothy had five children together, all born in Rowley.

1. Dorothy Rogers, b. 1704; d. 1743 in Stratham, New Hampshire; m. Benjamin Jewett on Jan. 16, 1726 in Rowley.

2. Dionysius Rogers, b. 1705; d. Mar. 12, 1729 in Rowley, at the age of 24.

3. Daniel Rogers, b. Jan. 22, 1709; m. Sarah Davis, daughter of John Davis and Elizabeth Burnham and the widow of Peter Mason.

4. Mary Rogers, b. 1712

5. Jonathan Rogers, b. 1714; d. 1794 in Newburyport; m. Margery Stevens on Jul. 12, 1735 in Boston. Margery was the daughter of Thomas Stevens and Sarah Place.

Sadly at the age of 35, Dorothy died on Aug. 17, 1718.

Robert remarried to Sarah Jewett on Oct. 7, 1718 in Rowley. Sarah was the daughter of Capt. Joseph Jewett and Ruth Wood, and the widow of Samuel Prime. Sarah and Robert had one child.

1. Jane Rogers, b. 1721 in Rowley; d. 1798 in Wenham; m. Churchill Knowlton on Jul. 4, 1741 in Wenham.

They would only be married 4 years, due to Sarah's death on Nov. 20, 1722, at the age of 33.

Robert married a third time on Mar. 11, 1722/23 to Lydia Leaver, the daughter of Thomas Leaver and Damaris Bailey, and the widow of Daniel Thurston. Robert died on Apr. 18, 1722/23. He died 1 month, 7 days after they were married.

Lydia was remarried again to Stephen Jewett on Nov. 23, 1725, at the age of forty.

Robert has a mention of a military experience as a trooper in service at Dunstable recorded on Jul. 3, 1706. He was wounded by a "spear run into my breast". He was treated for that wound at Billerica to the 15th of the month; (ref. "Early Settlers of Rowley").

No marker has been found for Robert at Rowley, nor for his first two wives who are also likely buried here. The marker for Robert's third wife is documented here.
