Said to be son of Jacob CARRAKER (1790 Mecklenburg County, North Carolina - 1875 Talbot County, Georgia, filed an application for service in the War of 1812) and wife Nancy HAYS (1788 Darlington County, South Carolina - 29 DEC 1854 Talbot County, Georgia), who married 08 NOV 1821 in Laurens County, Georgia - she had possibly been previously married to a THOMAS.

Supposedly married ca. 1859 to Mary E. UNKNOWN, by whom he had one daughter, Lula or Leila P. CARREKER. Newton P. CARREKER married 19 NOV 1876 in Talbot County, Georgia, to Mrs. Elizabeth L. "Lizzie" (BRYAN) HILL (purportedly a second wife), widow of Robert N. HILL. Newton evidently married 1904 to Lizzie's sister Lula BRYAN, who survived him, along with the daughter, Leila P. (CARREKER) EDGE of Geneva, who had married 16 NOV 1882 in Talbot County to George Robert EDGE; he died 21 DEC 1931 at Geneva and was buried in Talbotton (a.k.a. Oak Hill) Cemetery, and they had a son, N. P. EDGE, who resided at Rocky Mount, NC. Death date reported as 26 JUN (rather than 25 JUN) 1918 in transcription of cemetery.

"Capt. N. P. CARREKER Dies At Talbotton // Captain N. P. CARREKER died at his residence in Talbotton Tuesday night at 11 o'clock and was buried at Oak Hill cemetery at 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. He was eighty-seven years old and was a captain in the quartermaster's department of the Confederacy. Captain CARREKER was well known in Columbus and his friends here will regret to learn of his death." [Columbus (GA) Ledger newspaper, Friday, 28 JUN 1918, p. 7.]

From the Talbotton New Era, Thursday, February 7, 1907, page 3: "Captain Newton P. Carreker celebrates 76th birthday February 7, 1907/ Captain and Mrs. Careker Entertain/ Captain and Mrs. Newton Percy Carreker entertained a few friends at tea one evening recently. It was the evening of the 76th birthday of the genial Captain. It is doubtful if there is a more vigorous man in Georgia, at 76 years of age, than is Captain Carreker. He is one of the most active businessman of Talbotton, enterprising and public spirited, and takes a hand and every movement, which tends to the growth and improvement of the community. May he live a hundred years longer. Those enjoying the evening work Messers Ware, Hensley, McWhorter, Dickerson and Dr. C. M. Black."
