B.W. Curry, Jr., 93 yrs old, passed away on July 5, 2015 at Forrest General Hospital. Visitation will be at Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will be held in Roseland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Curry was born in Hattiesburg, on November 4, 1921, son of Burnice Wesley Curry, Sr., and Pearl Foster Curry. He graduated from Hattiesburg High in 1939, were he was a member of Phi Kappa and Demolay. Mr. Curry attended Ms Southern College.

After Pearl Harbor, Mr. Curry volunteered as an Army Air Force Cadet, and he graduated in the top 10 in his class as a pilot. Mr. Curry served as an instructor at Craig Field, Selma, AL for a year before going overseas. He was a member of the 305th wing, 49th squadron, 14th fighter group, where he flew P-38s. After flying 35 missions he was promoted to General Nelson’s staff at wing command headquarters, and he continued to fly 16 missions on his days off. Mr. Curry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Clusters, Expert Gunnery Medal both in air and ground and various other ribbons.

After the war, Mr. Curry returned to Hattiesburg where he met his future wife, Nancy Hartman. They were married on January 28, 1946 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hattiesburg.

Mr. Curry was the owner of consumer finance businesses throughout the state. He was instrumental in helping pass the Mississippi Consumer Finance law which regulated the Consumer Finance business through the banking department. He served as the 2nd President of the Mississippi Consumer Finance organization and was on its Board of Directors for 25 yrs. Mr. Curry was also the owner and operator of WFOR radio station in Hattiesburg for 4 yrs.

Mr. Curry was a member of the Hattiesburg Country Club Board of Directors, and was instrumental in both purchasing acreage for its current location and in planning the current clubhouse. Mr. Curry was also a member of the Lion’s club for twenty-five years.

Mr. Curry was very active at Trinity Episcopal Church where at one time he taught Sunday school. Through the years, Mr. Curry served as Treasurer, Senior Warden and Chairman of the Every Member Canvass. He also served a number of years on the Standing Committee of the Diocese.

Mr. Curry was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Curry, Sr., his sister Doris Curry Ledukes Traylor, and his grandson, Richard Harris Curry. Mr. Curry is survived by his wife, Mrs. B. W. Curry, Jr., and his four children Burnice Wesley Curry, III (Martha Ann), James Robinson Curry (Kathy), Cathleen Foster Curry Hansen (Hans), Lisa Candace Curry Voss (James), eleven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as his sisters Jean Marie Curry MacGregor, and Janet Curry Ponder.
