Following Emily's death on 15 Jul 1842, Alabama, USA, he married Edie Hurst. After Edie's death on 12 March 1847, in Clay County, Alabama, he lastly married Catherine Fox on 7 Apr 1852 in Talladega County, Alabama. He died on May 14, 1872, in Ashland, Alabama. His age is given differently in each census and so his birth year is undetermined. His place of burial is unknown.
Additionally, there is confusion whether his middle initial is G or J; records passed to me 55 years ago indicated it was J, however, the marriage record for John and Emily is very clearly G, yet his Will states John J.
After much consideration, I have decided to stay with John J Mitchell - his actual middle name is unknown, although it was originally passed to me as John Jay by a descendant of his granddaughter, Hicksey Ann Clementine Mitchell Conger.
