Obituary
Rev. Glen Norman, a longtime and popular minister of Baytown, known for his humorous personality, generous acts of kindness, wise counsel, and encouraging faith-filled messages died Wednesday night afer suffering from head trauma incurred as a result of an auto pedestrian accident. Brother Glen was a great man of faith who walked closely with his Lord through sixty-six years of tirelessly giving himself to the gospel ministry and to others. He was a man who never met a stranger and built a network of relationships across denominational lines throughout Texas, the Pacific Northwest, California, and in this community.
His ministry began in the early 1940s as he was transformed from an avowed atheist into a prominent Baptist leader sought for his gifts of evangelistic preaching with fervor and fire. After graduating from Baylor University and Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary, his ministry included a series of visionary pastorates, building successful and growing congregations such as Calvary Baptist in Houston, Texas; First Baptist Oak Cliff in Dallas; Texas; Trinity Baptist in Amarillo, Texas; Second Baptist in Corpus Christi, Texas; Richland Baptist in Richland, Washington; and Greenspoint Baptist, a church he stared in Northwest Houston. Always interested in missionary endeavors, Rev. Norman participated in numerous evangelistic and church planting efforts in Alaska, Brazil, Jamaica, Korea, the Philippines, Japan, and Vietnam.
In his later years Brother Norman began a new phase of ministry conducting stewardship development campaigns in over 100 churches for the purpose of debt retirement, expansion, and relocation as well as mentoring many younger pastors. He will be remembered locally as an interim pastor at Second Baptist, Baytown, Texas, which many believe was the positive turning point of its future, a leader within Love INC, and as a faithful deacon and Sunday School teacher at Wooster Baptist Church, Baytown, Texas.
Rev. Norman is preceded by his loving wife Eloise Norman and many brothers and sisters including A.W. Norman. He is survived by his sons and daughter, Kenneth G. Norman of Houston, Texas; Price D. Norman of Seattle, Washington; Sarah E. Norman of Baytown, Texas; and David W. Norman and his wife Annette of San Antonio, Texas; and nine grandchildren, Shannon Norman, Kathleen Pollard, Ashlea Norman, Nathan Norman, Elliott Norman, Chelsea Norman, Heather Norman, Kahlil Robinson, and Kelleebeth Norman.
Pallbearers are Ed Ueckert, Ron Norman, Lin Yarbrough, Bobby Yoakum, Jim Hughes, Charlie Woodward, Joe Cook, and Danny Buckley.
Honorary pallbearers are Dale Aycock, Allan Crow, Dale Crow, Elliott Norman, Nathan Norman, Kahlil Robinson, Don Cantor, and the Wooster Baptist Church Senior Adult Mens Class.
