James Hagey, 68, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, following complications from an automobile accident.

A celebration of life service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Pete Petersen will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Tuesday.

James Edgar Hagey was born on January 21, 1947, in Le Mars, Iowa, to J. Edgar and Esther (Nielsen) Hagey.

He attended school in Marcus. Following his education, Jim took a positon with Goodwill Industries in Sioux City. He also worked for Goodwill in Kansas City while living with his sister. Jim returned to Marcus and assisted his mother with a daycare they operated in their home. After Jim’s parents passed away, he went to work with Jim Nielsen in the antique and estate-sale business.

Jim was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. He enjoyed visiting with the Marcus residents and participating in all the local activities. He also enjoyed gathering many types of collectibles.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by a sister, Sharon Miller of Portland, OR; brothers, Larry Hagey and his wife Laurie of Moorland, IA, Barry Hagey and his wife Louise of Waseca, MN, and Bill Hagey and his wife Dena of Marshalltown, IA; nieces and nephews, Lara Miller of Portland, OR, Alyssa Subbert and her husband Jason of Grimes, IA, Kelly Gunderson and her husband Chris of Omaha, NE, Kristi Vermazen and her husband Curt of Fort Dodge, IA, Sean Hagey and his wife Theresa of Sioux City, and Travis Gerstandt and Matt Gerstandt and his wife Cassandra of Marshalltown, IA; grand-nieces and nephews, Kassie Vinsand, Big Jake Baker, Kelsie, Jacob, Jenna, and Callie Vermazen, Paige, Ethan, and Nicole Gunderson, Avery, Nick, and Ella Subbert, and Isabelle, Micah, and Josie Hagey; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Jack Miller; niece, Jennifer Hagey, and a grand-niece, Alyssa Vinsand.
