Torina and her twin brother Clarence were born in Decorah, Iowa.
Her parents Anne Ericksen Brattrud and Amund Cristensen Orpen had immigrated in 1871.
Her older sibling Margit was born in Norway with she and her younger siblings born in Iowa-Anna, Benot, and Emma.
Husband Gustav Peter(aka)G.P. Bolkan families settled in Kensett after journeying from homeland Norway. They married in 1893. Their family grew to be the known nine children. Each grew to adult years except Esther The town had experienced a severe fire there in Kensett. They remained in the area all the remaining days of their lives. She was living in a adult group setting after her husband passed noted from the census revisited.
Her siblings: Margit, her twin brother Clarence, Anna, Benot, and Emma did relocate with Margit marrying/relocating to Minnesota. Her brother Charles( aka Clarence) moved to South Dakota/onto to CA. later. Anna stayed in the area, married, and eventually moved to Brodhead, WI. Benot moved to MN remaining a bachelor and Emma and Clarence moved to CA.
She remained in Kensett along with her daughter Esther and Selmer, and relatives Martha and Ted. Daughter Esther died as a teenager at 11 years. Daughter Alma and granddaughter Arline Marie passed within a few weeks of one another December 1918.
Nine children were born of this union. The oldest was their first that was noted only in number may have been baby Bolkan as named in the Manly cemetery.
Second child Anna was born. She married in Kensett IA. and relocated to WI. The other Bolkan children moved out of Kensett to different Iowa/cities- Alma P., Alvin F., Gena(aka Gene Mikkelson), Selmer(Tem), Lil, Esther Berniece, Mildred (aka Babe)-.
The children gave Torina the gift of ten known grandchildren-7 IA. And 3 WI grandchildren-Arlene, (Gene, Lil, Mildred children)- Bob, Bill, Richard, Craig, Jeff.
Her WI. grandchildren- Carma, Phyllis and known great grandchildren-BobbyDorr, Heidi, Kevin, &KerryKeen, Gina, Steven, & Michael. She had extended family in her nieces and nephews of Margit and Emma.
In census of 1940 she was living at Worth County Home as a widow. Brother Benot remained single. Torina was laid to rest next to G.P. and her children Esther and Selmer at Kensett Cem.
