Rose Marie Corrigeux Hughes, beloved wife of Melville (Duke) Hughes, passed away at home peacefully on June 28, surrounded by the love of her family. She is predeceased by her father, Archie Corrigeux. In addition to her husband, Duke, she is survived by: her mother, Irene DeWit; her son, Thomas Hughes, his wife Jacksie, and their children, William and Emma; her daughter, Lia Hughes, and her children, Brian and Dana; her sisters, Ellen Hartmann, and her husband, Tim, and Mary Andrew and her husband, Dennis; her niece, Cathy Boicelli and her family; many dear friends and a large extended family.
Born in Cut Bank, MO, spending her early years on the prairie, she was raised in Columbia Falls. Rose Marie graduated Columbia Falls High School in 1960. She remained in contact with her classmates and valued her friendships from that time all her life. She graduated from Bowling Green University summa cum laude, with a BS in Education.
Before retiring to Dixon in 2001, Rose Marie worked as an elementary school teacher in both Ohio and California, had a decade's long career in Santa Clara Valley real estate, and had administrative roles at both Wells Fargo Bank and Autodesk in Marin County.
An avid quilter in later life, Rose Marie had a large collection of fabrics and sewing machines. She made dozens of beautiful quilts and loved giving them as gifts. She enjoyed participating in quilting classes and the North Wind Quilters Guild, which she served as an officer for several years.
A woman of strong faith, she most recently attended Living Hope Church in Dixon, and greatly enjoyed the fellowship of bible study with BSF.
While she lived and traveled the world from Japan to Europe, Montana has always been home, particularly the cabin built by her father on Ashley Lake in the Flathead Valley. Outside of spending time in Northern California with her family, the cabin was the place she loved best.
A reception in her memory will be held Friday, July 10, with friends and family welcome to visit between 4 and 8 p.m., at the Olde Vets Hall, 231 N. 1st St., Dixon. Remembrances may be made to Yolo Hospice.
