She was born Dec. 29, 1961, in Kankakee, Ill., to James and Mary Lou Wootton. She married Doug Phillips on June 7, 1980.
Surviving are her husband, Doug Phillips of Springfield; two daughters, Laura (Caleb) Adams of Springfield and Melinda (Adam) Holler of Greenville; parents, James and Mary Lou Wootton of Springfield; three sisters: Pam (Paul) Hickey of St. Clair, Mo., Sherry (Doug) Holliday of Greenview and Natalie (Steve) Holliday of Athens; one brother, James (Jean) Wootton II of Monroe, La.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Melissa was a very active member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church. She selflessly served in various mission organizations throughout Illinois. She was loved and adored by countless friends and family.
She was Associate Executive Director of the Church Cooperation Team of Illinois Baptist State Association (IBSA).
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, at Staab Funeral Home.
Additional Visitation: 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Springfield Southern Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Springfield, Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Keppler and Nate Adams officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
