MADISON - Frederick E. Carlson, age 70, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015, at his home in Fitchburg.

Fred was born on June 14, 1944, to Malcolm and Mary (Stumpf) Carlson of Madison.

Early in life, he married Mina Lunda and had one daughter. He later married the love of his life, Eileen "Myrtle" McGaw and together they raised seven sons. Eileen preceded him in death in 2007. He then married a dear friend, Linda Peterson, in 2012.

Fred was a dedicated employee at Wisconsin Canteen, later C.L. Swanson Corp., for over 40 years. He was a family man and more than anything, loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Fred was dedicated to his loved ones and putting the needs of others before his own.

He loved camping, hunting, and cheering on the Packers and Badgers. When he wasn't baking treats for his loved ones, Fred could most often be found sitting in his lawn chair cheering on his boys at the softball diamond. Fred and Eileen rarely missed a party, special event, or sports game that their grandchildren were involved in, and welcomed everyone into their home with love.

Fred is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Dana (Butch) Seivert, Steve (Brittaney Ringelstetter) Carlson, Scott (Erica) Carlson, Randy (Jean) Rogers, Ronnie (Debbie Greene) Rogers, Rick (Cheryl) Rogers, Bud (Lisa) Rogers, Rusty (Angie) Rogers, Dawn (Ken) Wermuth and Michelle (Craig) Rabuck; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Stan (Bonita) Carlson, Paul (Judy) Carlson, Chuck (Shirley) Carlson, Vicky Ross, Joe Carlson, Tim Carlson (Jeanne), and Terry (Marie) Carlson; godson, Miles Weaver; and dear friends, Gary and Joanne McKinley, Barb and Dave Daane, Patti Phillips, and Bill Brodd.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Eileen; first wife, Mina Lunda; brothers, Daniel and Arthur Carlson; grandson, Donnie Nichols; and his best friend, Ken Phillips.

A Memorial Mass will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT THE ST. JAMES CHURCH, 1128 St. James Ct., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Friday, June 5, 2015, with Monsignor Thomas Baxter presiding. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Gary and Joanne McKinley for all of their love and support throughout the years.
