BICKNELL - Loyd George Hunt, "The Old Gold Miner" 84, passed away June 27, 2006 in Richfield, of causes incident to age.

He was born Oct. 20, 1921 in Vermillion, a son of Andrew and Olive Rozannah Curfew Hunt.

He married Inez Brinkerhoff, Feb. 25, 1942 in Evanston, Wyo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS temple, July 2, 1953. This union lasted 64 years until the time of his death.

In his early working years, Loyd was active in the family mining business, Hunt Uranium Corporation, and worked in that business on the Colorado plateau until the early 1960s.

As the uranium market slumped, he transitioned to heavy construction work, remaining employed in that industry until his retirement in 1983.

Loyd made many friends in the construction industry and was instrumental in the construction of many major highway projects in Southern Utah and the four corners area.

He was also very active in community affairs, serving as the major of Bicknell, a member of the Wayne County Commission and a member of the Six County Economic Development Commission.

Loyd will be remembered by those who knew him well as a raconteur who specialized in stories of lost gold, big deals and good prospects. He will be dearly missed.

Loyd and his wife, Inez, were very proud of their family and their many accomplishments and the close-knit relationships they enjoyed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Inez, Bicknell; his children, Candice (Kay) Blackburn, St. George; George A. (Mary); Gilbert L., all Salt Lake City; Virginia (Thomas A.) Jeffery, Fremont; Lisa (Gary W.) Leaming, Redmond; Natalie (Bruce G.) Morrell, Loa; Troy (Nicole), Las Vegas; Steve Jackson, Kaysville; the late Marsha Jackson; and Sandra; 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Reo V. and Kay L. Hunt.

Funeral services were July 1, in the Thurber LDS ward, with David Moosman officiating and conducting. Compassionate services were provided by the Thurber LDS ward Relief Society.

A family prayer was offered by Troy Hunt, (son), and the invocation was given by Dustin Jackson, (grandson).

Prelude and postlude music was performed by Coral W. Brinkerhoff.

Musical selections included a vocal solo, "These Hands" by Natalie Morrell, (daughter) and accompanied by Coral W. Brinkerhoff; a fiddle medley by Gilbert Hunt, (son); "The Mountain" by Gilbert Hunt, (son), an original song written by Gil Hunt.

Memories were shared by Tim and Todd Blackburn, (grandsons).

A tribute was given by George Hunt, (son), and remarks were offered by David Moosman, (nephew).

The Benediction was given by Launa Albrecht, (granddaughter).

Serving as pallbearers were George A. Hunt, E. Kay Blackburn, Gary W. Leaming, Gilbert L. Hunt, Stephen H. Jackson, Bruce G. Morrell, R. Troy Hunt and Thomas A. Jeffrey.

Honorary pallbearers were Tim Blackburn, Dustin Jackson, Andrew Hunt, Logan Leaming, Wayne Smith, Todd Blackburn, Rinaldo Hunt, Jordan Leaming, Marcus Hunt, Boyd Brown, Travis Jackson, Merrick Jackson, Geoffrey Hunt and Matthew Hunt.

Interment was in the Bicknell Cemetery, and the dedicatory prayer given by Bishop Gary Leaming, (son-in-law).
