Mr. Ray C. Parker, age 85, died Saturday July 4, 2015, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice House in Statesboro.

The Hall County, Ga. native was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro and graduated in 1954. He was employed at the college as the Director of the Film Library. He moved to Columbia, SC where he was employed with Smith, Kline and French Pharmaceutical Company until 1976. He formed Parker Distributing Company in 1982 until his retirement in 2010. He returned to Statesboro in 2011 to live with his daughter. Ray was a member of the American Legion Post 173, the Columbia Jaycees and the Columbia Country Club for 50 years and had served on the board of directors. He was a member of the St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Columbia. Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years on the golf course with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Richardson Parker.

Surviving are his daughter, Susan Parker Boerner of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Teresa Parker of High Point, NC; five grandchildren, Clay Boerner of High Point, Andrew Boerner of Statesboro, Rebekah Parker of High Point, Rachael Parker of Blacksburg, VA and Elizabeth Parker of High Point; nephews, Franklin Sherrod and Louise of Brooklet and Eddie Sherrod of Statesboro and Ronnie and Pat Edwards of Gainesville and nieces ,Linda and Butch Debuner of Albany and Patricia and Willard Morris of Gainesville.

The family will receive visitors on Friday July 10, 2015, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00am at the Statesboro First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating, following a private family graveside service.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hudson Powell, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2130 Statesboro, Ga. 30459 or Youth Unlimited, P.O. Box 485 High Point, NC. 27261.
