Gladys Mary Wood, 97, longtime Wallace resident, departed from this life July 1, 2015, at Sutherland Care Center.
She was born May 23, 1918, to August and Theresa (Schnitzer) Sullentrup north of Grainton. She attended rural school in the Grainton area before graduating from Grainton High School.
On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Harold Spencer Wood. Gladys was a school bus driver for the Wallace School District for 17 years. She also worked in the Wallace Post Office and the grocery and dry goods store. She belonged to the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary and was a lifetime member of the Catholic church.
Gladys enjoyed going to Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to the Old Thrasher Reunion each year. She also liked to go to Arkansas to visit Marilyn and family.
Gladys was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially loved to have her family around the dinner table with everyone’s favorite dish and was willing to help when needed. She knew how to prepare the best dishes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Theresa; brothers, Eugene Sullentrup and Robert Sullentrup; sister, Eleanor Goedert; grandson, Nick Ogier; and son-in-law, Bill Ogier.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Ogier, of Alpena, Arizona, Gwen (Harold) Miller, of Albion, and Marlene (Dennis) Kuskie, of Casa Grande, Arizona; two sons, Robert Wood and Duane (Lana) Wood, of Wallace; eleven grandchildren, Mark Ogier, Tim (Sheila) Ogier, Janet (Gary) Wilcox, all of Alpena, Arizona, Kevin Miller, of Omaha, Becky Miller, of Kearney, Jennifer Kuskie and Michael Kuskie, of Casa Grande, Arizona, Krstyn (Tracey) Smith, of North Platte, Mandy Brenner Matt Brenner, Ryan and David Wood, of Wallace, and Michelle (Tanner) Dircksen, of North Platte; one great-great-grandchild; one niece; and two nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wallace with Father Tom Kuffel as celebrant. Burial will be at Morning View Cemetery in Wallace. Bullock-Long Funeral Home, Grant, is in charge of arrangements.
