Lt. Col. Jess E. White, 86, Jefferson City, died June 11, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center.
He was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of Jess R. and Mary E. Callahan White. He was married May 4, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan., to Norma E. Miller who survives at the home.
He graduated from Wyondotte County, Kan., schools. He received his flight training and pilot's license in 1939. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, after joining the Royal Canadian Air Force and serving as a flight instructor and pilot. He retired from active military duty in 1964 in Houston, Texas. He later moved to Austin, Texas, before moving to Jefferson City in 1992.
He was a member of the Lions Club; Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693; the B.P.O. of Elks, Lodge 513; and the Ox-5 Club, where he served as president in San Antonio.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Lin Williams, Jefferson City, and Dani White-Baldwin, Dickerson, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
One son, Jess E. White II, died in 1959.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. Private graveside services will be Friday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
