MILLMONT – Rachel Elsie Hornberger, 76, of Patty Mountain Road, Millmont RD1, died at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, 1993, at the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center following an illness of five weeks.

Born July 3, 1916, at Sunbury, she was a daughter of the late William Elwood and Rachel Elsie Rorick Grow. She was married to Irvin Elwood “Whitey” Hornberger. She lived in Hartley Township, Union County, since 1973, and prior to that lived in Lewisburg. She was a 1934 graduate of Sunbury High School.

Mrs. Hornberger retired in 1980 after more than 16 years employment by JPM Inc., Lewisburg. Prior to that she assisted her husband from 1949-66 as owners-operators of Hornberger’s Restaurant, Lewisburg, and Dynamite Restaurant, Mifflinburg.

She was a member of Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, Millmont RD1; the Millmont West Union Area Lions Club, where she was a former assistant secretary and was serving on the membership committee; and was a member and secretary of the Union County West End Senior Citizens Association.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Irvin E. “Pete” of Reading; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Greksouk of San Diego and Kerry M. Bailor of New Columbia RD1; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Martz of Blue Island, Ill.; and a brother, Elwood Grow of Sidney, N.Y. She was preceded in death by a brother, Guy.

The funeral will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, by the Rev. F. Jeffrey Mugridge. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury. Friends may call from 5:30 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
