"Lucian R. Fuhrmeister, 96, of rural Fremont died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at his home.

He was born Aug. 22, 1912, in Peabody, Kan., to George and Elizabeth (Aussaker) Fuhrmeister. He came to Fremont with his family when he was 8 years of age. He graduated from Fremont High School, then graduated from Midland Lutheran College in 1937. He received his master’s degree from Omaha University (now the University of Nebraska at Omaha) in 1951. He did his doctoral work at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. During his years at Midland, he was a member of the football team.

He taught and coached in many schools. He taught in South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois. In Nebraska, he was a high school principal and was superintendent in Ralston and Uehling. Among other Nebraska schools that he was associated with were schools in Craig, Oakland, Herman, Humphrey, Weston and Valley. He became Dodge County superintendent of schools in 1979.

He married Ranatta Rasmussen in July 1936.

Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Janis Sue Fuhrmeister of Fremont; a son, Norman Fuhrmeister of Fremont; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Services will be private. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements."
