Born on November 4, 1963 to Richard and Mary Kaye (Thieleke) Orr in Des Moines, Iowa and was a lifelong Des Moines resident. Mark was a graduate of Urbandale High School and DMACC. He spent eight years working in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma early in his career, but returned to Des Moines twenty years ago to be closer to his family.
Mark was a simple man who cherished time with family and friends. His greatest joy was teaching his nephews and niece the value of hard work; the importance of good friends; and, making family time a priority. In addition to family, Mark was proud to share his time and friendship with his 18-wheeler colleagues Tony & Chip & their families. Many friends considered Mark, "a big teddy bear", but knew better than to tick him off.
Mark is survived by his mother Mary Kaye, sister Janet Branscum, brothers Mike (Cindy) and Don, nephews Richard Branscum, Matthew Orr and niece Melissa Orr. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Orr and his brother-in law Brian Branscum.
The family is planning a private celebration of Mark's life for family and close friends, at a later date.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in honor of Mark E. Orr to the Urbandale Fire & Rescue Service, 3927 121st Street in Urbandale, 50323.
