Gussie, the Hutchinson's only daughter, continued to live under her father's roof until his death at age 80, keeping his house for him and preparing the meals.
She was 48 years old when she became the wife of 56-year-old widower William Bunyon Arnold. Gussie brought companionship to the marriage, and William provided her with her first home of her own.
No children were born to this union, probably owing to the ages of both. However, his children by his dead first wife were pleased that their father was no longer alone and that he had found a good woman with whom to share his life. His children, who were grown by then and had started their own families, were fond of her. As a sign of respect, they always addressed her as "Miss Gussie", as did their own children.
After William Bunyon Arnold died on an icy day in January 1949, Miss Gussie returned to the bosom of her own family. A beloved and devoted nephew, Thaddeus "Thad" Hutchinson, son of her brother Neely, saw that his dear aunt would want for nothing in the time remaining to her.
Eight months into her widowhood, Gussie Amanda (Hutchinson) Arnold passed away at the age of 71. Her nephew laid her to rest near her parents and her brother.
She is remembered with appreciation by the descendants of her husband.
