Funeral services for Deacon Warren Arison Matthews were held Fri., Jan. 26, 2001, at Union Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by the Rev. Willie Bryant. Burial followed at Cowhead Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mr. Matthews, 80, died Jan. 19, 2001, at his residence in Lane. He was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Lane, a son of the late Amos Matthews, Sr. and Leila Samuels Matthews. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Thelma Mari Matthews of Lane; two sons, James Arison Matthews of Brooklyn, NY; and Adolph Matthews of San Francisco, CA; five daughters, Mrs. Barbara Gordon, Sheila Matthews and Charlene Matthews, all of Brooklyn, NY; Gail Matthews of Stone Mountain, GA; Judith Matthews of Kingstree; three brothers, Illious Matthews of Brooklyn, NY; John Williams of Summerville; and the Rev. Amos Matthews of Lane; and four sisters, Mrs. Martha Singletary of Braddock, PA; Mrs. Rosetta Wilson of Salters; Mrs. Victoria Jacobs of Hollis, NY; and Mrs. Edith Wilson of St. Albans, NY.
