DISCLAIMER: I can find no records that indicate that Mary or her husband Thomas are buried in this cemetery. There is evidence, however, according to the 1870, Precinct 2, [Which includes Bend] Lampasas County, Texas, census that they were living here in 1870, the year that they both died. Their son Joseph Yancy Tate and his wife and at least one of their children are buried here. Mary Melissa [Tate] Williams, one their daughters, is also buried here. According to The Lampasas County Historical Commission, the cemetery was surveyed by Charlene Nash and Tommye Marley in February of 1994. At that time there were about "58 sandstone markers with no inscriptions, many with footstones." When my wife and I walked through it a couple of years ago, there were multiple white pipe markers...again, none with inscriptions. It is my belief that Thomas Tate and his wife Mary Strayhorn Tate are probably buried under one of these markers.
