William Minton Sr. was also the father of a son born out of wedlock to a woman whose name was Felice Levy. This was William Marriott Minton Jr. who was born in 1880. After the birth of William Jr., William Sr. and Rebecca separated but remained legally married. In late 1887 or early 1888 William Sr. filed a lawsuit in San Francisco for divorce alleging that Rebecca had deserted him. Rebecca apparently did not respond to the divorce lawsuit. A San Francisco judge granted William a divorce in March, 1888. Rebecca and/or her relatives did not acknowledge the divorce. When Rebecca died in New Orleans in 1890 her newspaper obituary includes among a list of survivors "her husband, W. M. Minton".
William Sr. married Felice Levy in 1889. After Felice died in 1900 he married his third wife Jennie McLain of Honolulu, Hawaii. This marriage produced no children. The three adult children of William Marriott Minton Sr. all settled in California.
