Plattsburgh - Dr. Paul Comstock Agnew, 66, a psychiatrist for more than 30 years and a former resident of "The Point," Cumberland Head died Friday, Dec. 22, 1989 at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in Burlington of pneumonia.

He had been a patient at Burlington Convalescent Center for 15 months, following a stroke in June 1988. He entered the medical center this week.

He was born in Plattsburgh, the son of John Comstock and Frances (Clay) Agnew.

Dr. Agnew graduated from Plattsburgh High School and was a 1945 graduate of Williams College, where he was a Stetson Scholar. He later graduated from McGill University Medical School in Montreal and completed his psychiatric residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and the Unversity of Chicago.

He had been director of Dannemora State Hospital, the Matteawan State Hospital at Beacon, and the State Hospital in Waterbury, Vt. He had a psychiatric practice at 14 Healey Ave. for about 10 years before he was stricken. He had also been in private in Highland Park, Ill., and had been on the faculty of the University of Vermont Medical School. He served as a consultant in Clinton County courts and at the Veterans Administration hospitals in Tupper Lake and White River Junction, Vt.

Dr. Agnew served in Italy during World War II. He was a commissioned officer in the Unite States Signal Corps and was in the 10th Mountain Division.

He was a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church.

His first wife, Jessica Cameron Agnew died in 1972. His second wife, Marcia Bedell Agnew, died in November 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Eleanor Agnew and her husband, Liberto Chacun of Savannah, Ga., and Dina Cameron Agnew and her husband, Norman R. Bliss of Colchester, Vt.; a son, Paul Cameron Agnew and his wife, Donna Agnew of Canaan, N.H.; a brother, the Rev. John C. Agnew of Milford, Mass.; seven grandchildren and two nieces.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the spring.

Because of Dr. Agnew's great love of Lake Champlain, memorial donations may be made to the Lake Champlain Committee.
