Julie was born on March 19, 1952 in Jefferson City, a daughter of Bobby and Allene Hammen.
She was a 1970 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended Central Missouri State University. Julie began her career in 1971 as a secretary with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and over the next 39 years, she worked her way up to Director of Publications, retiring in 2010.
She was a past member of Central United Church of Christ, Relay for Life, and gave generously to various charities and organizations.
Julie was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, spent countless hours gardening and enjoyed shopping and outings with friends. She was the foundation for her family, always loving, supporting and encouraging her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include: daughter, Lisa (Steve) Buhr of Taos, Mo.; son, Mike (Becca) Lewis of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister, Linda (Gail) Bruce of Wooldridge, Mo.; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hammen of Philpot, Ky.; grandsons, Luke, Brock, Beau and Foster; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents and her brother, Dennis Hammen.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2015.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2015 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating.
Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Compassus.
