Hannah Elizabeth Wilson
(June 11, 1996 - September 20, 2012)

Hannah Elizabeth Wilson, 16, of Virginia, MN died on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at St Mary’s Hospital in Duluth from injuries sustained in a tragic car accident. There will be a visitation on Monday, September 24th from 5 to 7 pm at Range Funeral Home in Virginia, with a time for friends and family to share stories and remembrances at 6:30. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 25th at 5 pm at the Eveleth-Gilbert High School gymnasium, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Hannah loved color and crazy socks, so we are asking everyone to wear something with color and if you would like, include a crazy pair of socks. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Virginia. That day the world lost a beautiful ray of sunshine. Many people were privileged to know Hannah, but for those of you who didn’t know her, we would like to give you a picture of what she was like. Hannah was born on June 11, 1996, the sixth child of Steve and Lisa Wilson. She was born in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. When she was three years old her family moved to the Iron Range in Minnesota.

Hannah was home-schooled until her 10th grade year of school when she began attending Eveleth-Gilbert High School. Because of her bubbly personality, she quickly adapted to the school routine and made a number of friends. Not only was Hannah beautiful on the outside, her personality was just as beautiful. Hannah was a positive person that people were instantly drawn to. She was the kind of person that would reach out to the “underdog” and would stand up for them regardless of what others thought. She had a helpful, giving personality and rarely was without a smile and a friendly hello.

This last summer there were four things that she was especially happy about - turning 16, getting her driver’s license, getting her braces off, and getting a job. From the time she was a little girl, Hannah had a tender heart toward following God. Recently she attended a summer camp and re-affirmed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was excited to attend church and youth group and to read her Bible. She wanted what God wanted for her.

In her short life, Hannah left a lasting mark on this world, and had she lived, we don’t believe she would have had any regrets about the way she had lived her life. Some things Hannah enjoyed doing was hanging out with friends and family, four-wheeling, clothes shopping, baking - esp. chocolate chip cookies and “puppy chow”.

Words cannot express what she meant to us, but while our hearts are breaking, we are thankful for the joy and the wonderful memories that we are left with. Many thanks to friends and family who stayed at the hospital throughout the night and to the caring trauma team at St. Mary’s hospital in Duluth who went above and beyond and did everything they could to save her.

She is survived by her parents, Steve and Lisa Wilson of Virginia, MN, siblings, Paul (Jennifer) Wilson of NC, Shannon (Zachary) Garrison of CA, Brian Wilson of Duluth, MN, Mark Wilson of Duluth, MN, Michaela Wilson of Virginia, MN, Grace Wilson of Virginia, MN; 3 nephews, Micah, Cooper and Benjamin Wilson; maternal grandparents, Nona (Duane) Brinkman, D. Kelly (Kathy) Campbell, paternal grandfather, Arthur Mathews; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Hannah was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, C.W. Wilson and Laura Mathews.

A memorial fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank in Virginia to help Hannah's family with extensive medical bills. Please contact Mike Carne at 218-749-5920 to make a donation to the Hannah E. Wilson Memorial Fund.
