Robert Sears, and his wife, Ellen (Garvey) Sears, immigrated to the United States, from Ireland, in approximately 1844 or 1845. With them came their two young children, Mary, born in 1842, and John Robert, born in 1843.

A son, Michael S., was born in 1846 in Lowell, MA. A son, Thomas Andrew, was born in 1847 in Brattleboro, VT. A daughter, Betsy, was born in 1851 in Brattleboro, VT. A son, Robert, was born in 1852 in Brattleboro, VT.

A daughter, Catherine C., was born in 1856 in Greenfield, MA, to Robert Sears, and his second wife, Bridget (Cavanaugh) Sears. It is not known, at this time, what happened to Robert’s first wife, Ellen (Garvey) Sears, when she died, or where she is buried.

A son, Patrick, was born in 1858 in Brattleboro, VT.

In 1859 Robert becomes a Naturalized Citizen, of the United States of America, at the Windham County Courthouse, Brattleboro, VT.

A son, Henry, is born in 1860 in Brattleboro, VT. A daughter, Nellie Ellen, is born in 1862 in Halifax, VT. A daughter, Elizabeth, is born in 1864 in Halifax, VT. A son, Maurice H., is born in 1867 in Easthampton, MA. And in 1869, the last child of Robert and Bridget (Cavanaugh) Sears, a daughter, Hannah, is born in Northampton, MA.

Robert and Bridget Sears lived out the rest of their lives in the Northampton - Easthampton area. At the time of Robert’s death in 1893, he and Bridget were living in Northampton, MA. Robert was 78 years old.

At the time of her death in 1912, Bridget had been living in Easthampton, MA with her niece, Mrs. James Murry (Ellen F. Cavanaugh), for the past thirteen years, having outlived her husband, and six of her seven children. Bridget was 88 years old.

Bridget was survived by her first-born child, Catherine C. "Kate" (Sears) Stannard, who died in 1940, at age 84, twenty-eight years after her mother’s death.

John Robert Sears, the second-born, and the last surviving child, of Robert Sears, having outlived both of his parents, and his step-mother, and all of his siblings, and half-siblings, died in 1941, in Greenfield, MA, just twenty days shy of his 98th birthday.
